There are 4 main clefs. Here at Basic Music Theory we will teach you about two: Treble and Bass Clefs.
Treble clef is a clef used for higher instruments, or the higher reaches of instruments: Violin, Flute, Oboe, Piano

Music involves notes. The clefs tell you which notes to play.
EX:When you see a note on the first line of treble clef, you would play the respective E on your instrument.
Bass clef is used for lower instruments or the lower reaches of instruments:Cello, Piano, Contrabassoon, Tuba
The bass clef is known as the F-clef because the spot where the F is on the staff is in between the two dots of the clef.
